Intro

Hello! My name is Luna. I am new to this group and also somewhat new to Dreamwidth! I keep a small backyard garden of mostly veggies and herbs. I grow most of my plants in containers. I use a variety of pots, grow bags, and upcycled totes for growing. Helps keep weeding a lot easier and I don't have to bend over quite as much/often (I have POTS). I live in the middle of the city, close to our downtown district. I don't have a lot of yard space, or the space I have may not be suitable for growing in ground. I am still working on them, but I have a few ideas for posts about composting and upcycling in the garden that I hope I can share in the future!

Below the cut is a small garden tour! This isn't everything I have, and I am still working on adding a few more things. :]

These first planters are at the base of our stairs and has a variety of herbs I can grab for cooking. The hanging planter has a cherry tomato plant in it. The hanging planters are a bit small, even for container friendly tomatoes, but I have had good luck with cherry tomatoes growing fairly well in them.

I have oregano, basil, thyme, lemon thyme, sage, Rosemary, garlic chives, and cherry tomatoes here!

These next planters are just a few steps away from the last ones.

I have pineapple mint, some marigolds, snap peas, and sweet 100 tomatoes. All of these will be nice grabs for the kitchen too. My mom also gifted me a few mini raised mini planters that I need to put together soon.

This next photo is the back of our house. My dad "rents" this spot to a friend for him to park is camper over the winter. So that means it is a big empty spot all summer. Last year I grew potatoes back here and they did really well. The only problem was it did get a bit hot in the summer, so I tried keeping things a little closer to the neighbor's fence this time.

Everything back here is peppers and tomatoes, so I also think they should be okay if it is a bit hot. It might just be a little bit of a pain to keep the grow bags tomatoes from drying out too much. I have both cherry and beefsteak tomatoes growing.

So many lovely plants: very creative gardening! Have you considered raising them up using sawhorses and planks so that you wouldn’t have to bend and rise as much?

We finally got the garden planted last week, but I haven’t posted yet. Mostly plum tomatoes here, for canning, and peppers, for freezing. We do have a Sweet 100 and one beefsteak plant as well.
